The 4-H Conservation Club

Clubs Primary Project(s):

Wildlife Conservation, Water Conservation and Forestry

Club Information:

The 4-H Conservation Club is a 4-H project club dealing with the subjects of Wildlife Conservation, Water Conservation and Forestry.

The 4-H Conservation Club has adopted Pleasant Valley Park through PA CleanWays and have agreed to clean up trash in the park at least two times each year, as our community service project.

The 4-H Conservation Club supports the efforts of the PV Park Volunteers and their work at PV Park in Murrysville. Members of our 4-H club help them to build and maintain the trails at PV Park. Another project we will be undertaking with the PV Park Volunteers this year, will be to raise money to purchase and install educational Tree Signs. These signs, once installed, will help visitors of all ages easily identify around 40 different trees within Pleasant Valley Park.

Area of County were Participates are from:

Majority are from the Murrysville area, however the club is open to anyone in Westmoreland County.
Meeting information:

We meet the fourth Tuesday of each month, at 6:00 p.m. in Murrysville at the Municipal building, upstairs near the Murrysville Library. We meet in the Municipality Conference Room (the last door on the right before the Library doors).

We will meet to work on our Project Books on the second Sunday of each month, at 1:30 p.m. at PV Park in Murrysville. If any of these dates fall on a holiday - they will be canceled or rescheduled. Visit our monthly calendar (link below) to confirm any meeting date or time.

April is Earth Month

Come out and help the 4-H Conservation Club to clean up a small part of it.

We will be picking up trash at Pleasant Valley Park from 1:30 p.m. until ??

We will start our cleanup along the Pleasant Valley Park border with Pleasant Valley Road. Once that trash has been picked up, we will move into the park itself to clean up one of several old farm dump sites. Which one we do will depend on crew strength and available resources.

Attention Teens - This is a great way to earn Community Service hours and have fun at the same time. The 4-H Conservation Club is participating in the 15th Annual National Public Lands Day (www.publiclandsday.org). Each year at the end of September, at locations all over the United States, nearly 100,000 volunteers build trails and bridges, pull weeds, plant native trees, remove trash and have fun getting back to nature.
Our National Public Lands Day event will take place at Pleasant Valley Park (www.pvpark.org).

The 4-H Conservation Club will be picking up trash around the Pleasant Valley Park parking lot and in other areas. Other possible projects will be announced at a later date.

If you are interested in volunteering for one of the projects, please contact Bonnie Belak at 724-327-6885 or bsbjjbjmb@alltel.net.
