THERE IS A PLACE FOR ADULTS IN 4-H

Adults can volunteer in the Westmoreland 4-H Program to serve as teachers and mentors for the 4-H youth members. Through their role they can help kids develop into capable, caring, contributing adults in their community.

Different roles that adults can play:

  • Organizational Leaders are the key to organizing and directing the 4-H group or club.
  • Project Leaders guide the 4-H'ers in specific project areas.
  • Activity Leaders help the 4-H members with presentations, exhibits, recreational activities, and field trips.
  • Parent Involvement: Not enough time to serve as a leader...parents play an important part in the 4-H youth experience. Click here to find out how.

Following are some of the ways adults are trained and supported in their volunteer roles.

LEADER'S LINE: A monthly newsletter giving leaders pertinent information about new programs and procedures.

CHAPERONE at County, Regional, State and National 4-H activities and events.

COUNTY TRAINING offered as needed on topics that are helpful to aid leaders.

LEADER KICKOFF An event that starts the 4-H year for leaders, offering them a time to learn about new programs and update information.

LEADER SYMPOSIUM (S.W.REGION) A conference held for leaders that includes workshops, speakers, and time to share ideas with leaders from other counties.

STATE LEADERS' FORUM Held every two years at Penn State University, consisting of workshops and speakers.

LEADERS' FORUM (NORTHEAST STATES) A five day workshop in adult leadership skills.
