4-H FAQS (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS)

What is 4-H? 4-H is an informal educational program for youth set up under State and Federal laws by cooperative Extension.

What does 4-H offer boys and girls? 4-H develops useful skills in preparation for adult living, citizenship and leadership through club and community activities.

Who may join? 4-H is open to any boy or girl between the ages of 8-19 years of age, regardless of race, sex, creed, handicap or national orgin.

What is a 4-H project? A task undertaken by each individual member, involving "learning by doing" in a particular subject matter area.

Are there any dues of other costs? There are no national, state or county dues. Local groups sometimes decide to have club dues. Almost all 4-H books and bulletins are free.

There is a place for adults in 4-H too! Adults are needed as 4-H leaders to teach project information, as well as, provide group club experiences to the members.

How can one join? You can find out the nearest 4-H club that offers projects of interest to you by contacting your local Extension office (WestmorelandExt@psu.edu) or clicking on the Westmoreland County Site map.
