Links & Resources

Here are some useful gardening resources and web links:

Westmoreland County Cooperative Extension hosts a Gardening Helpline, staffed by Penn State Master Gardeners, from 9:00 to noon on weekdays, except Thursdays, during the growing season. Call (724 837-1402) with gardening questions.

Westmoreland County Master Gardeners maintain Demonstration Gardens at Donohoe Center. These gardens include plants provided by Penn State for trial as part of the Pennsylvania Gardener Selects Program, annuals, perennials, an herb garden, a water garden, and an old-fashioned formal garden. You may take a Virtual Tour of the Demonstration Gardens, or visit them at any time.

To obtain a soil analysis from Penn State University, pick up a test kit at Donohoe Center. The kit includes instructions for collecting soil samples. Kits can be obtained at Donohoe Center for a fee of $9 each, or by mail for $10 (checks to be made out to Westmoreland County Extension Fund).

Click here for directions to Donohoe Center.
